Yify (ee-fee) is an artist of cinematic alternative music. Her sound is atmospheric and blends electronic acoustics with personal songwriting. As IndieGuru states, “Combining classical compositions, electronic production, and a songwriting style that feels all too personal, Yify Zhang creates a raw, lush sound that feels like collaboration of a indie pop artist, film track, and singer songwriter.”

Born in the metropolis of Beijing, Yify began her musical journey on the violin at the age of five and pursued a degree in violin performance. A spinal injury in the neck however, prevented a profession in classical violin. It was around this time that she dove into composition and songwriting.

Yify released her debut EP Vagrant Bird in 2018, followed by the singles Waste and Get Out. She is gearing up to release an EP in 2020, followed by new works. She is a regular performer with Sofar Sounds NYC, Rockwood Music Hall, Museum of Chinese in America, Pianos, Bitter End, Pine Box Rock Shop, and other local NYC venues. She will be a showcase performer at the 2019 Mondo Industry Showcase in NYC on October 16.

Yify is a two time semi-finalist at the International Songwriting Competition (2017, 2019) and a finalist at the American Songwriting Contest (2018). She has been featured by Vents Magazine, CelebMix, IndieGuru, AVA Live Radio, York Calling, among other indie music publications and playlists.

Inspired by a range of artists from songwriters such as Sara Bareilles, Sia, and Bon Iver to instrumental composers Max Richter, Nils Frahm, and Olafur Arnalds, Yify makes music to heal herself, and along the way she hopes others as well.
